About This Place

Located in the heart of Los Angeles’ vibrant Chinatown neighborhood, Tian’s Dim Sum Restaurant delivers an authentic taste of traditional Chinese cuisine with a focus on freshly made dim sum and dumplings. This cozy, no-frills eatery invites you to experience the rich flavors of pan-fried turnip cakes (臘味蘿蔔糕), Shanghai juicy pork dumplings (上海小籠包), and Siu Mai, alongside a variety of comforting favorites like beef rolls, sticky rice in lotus leaf (糯米鸡), and classic pork won ton.

What sets Tian’s apart is its dedication to made-to-order freshness, ensuring every bite bursts with flavor and texture. The pan-fried turnip cakes offer a golden, slightly crisp exterior that gives way to a savory, moist center, while the Shanghai juicy pork dumplings are delicate pockets of tender pork juice and dough stretching invitingly with each bite. Vegetarian diners will appreciate the thoughtfully prepared vegetarian dumplings and steamed veggie buns with tofu, praised as some of the best in town by regulars.

The restaurant’s fast-casual vibe makes it an ideal spot for casual dining, whether you’re dropping in for a quick lunch or savoring a leisurely afternoon dim sum feast. Customers have affectionately described it as a “mom and pop hole in the wall,” evoking the warm familiarity of a home kitchen where tea is perfectly brewed—not scalding—complementing every dish.

Tian’s extensive menu extends beyond dim sum, featuring flavorful chow mein varieties, like BBQ pork fried noodles and Singapore-style stir-fried rice noodles, as well as a seafood selection highlighted by honey walnut shrimp and salt & pepper fish fillet. Chicken lovers will find comfort in offerings such as Szechuan chicken, Mongolian chicken, and the addictive orange chicken—all thoughtfully balanced with sides to create a satisfying meal at a generous value.

Visitors and locals alike rave about Tian’s consistent quality and warm hospitality. One enthusiastic diner, Henry Choo, celebrated the freshness of the dim sum and the “springy, soft noodle,” while Ash The Noodle Chick insisted the wonton in chili oil is a “must-try.” Another regular, Tashina Suzuki, praised the standout vegetarian options, emphasizing the unbeatable value for such high-quality dishes. Meanwhile, Hallie Mayer highlights the unbeatable deal of three dim sum orders for under $15—a treat that makes Tian’s a perfect pit stop during a Chinatown excursion or downtown stroll.

In essence, Tian’s Dim Sum Restaurant offers an authentic, comforting slice of Chinese culinary tradition perfected over years and served with genuine care. Whether you’re craving the satisfying crunch of a scallion pancake or the juicy richness of xiao long bao late into the afternoon (a rarity at many dim sum spots), Tian’s fills the niche brilliantly with approachable flavors and a welcoming ambiance.

For those who appreciate the artistry behind each steamed bun and pan-fried cake, this gem at 809 N Hill St is not just a restaurant—it’s a flavorful journey into the heart of homemade Chinese cuisine right in the midst of Los Angeles.

Dim sum here is fresh and tasty. The wanton stuffing is delicious and noodle is springy and soft. Good morning breakfast and we finished everything on the plates. Cheers

Mom and pop hole in the wall dim sum spot. Pretty good dim sum. Made to order. Served hot. Scallion pancake and beef roll served crispy and crunchy. Definitely would go again. Feels like eating in my fiancés moms Chinese kitchen. Tea served at the right temperature and not scalding hot like a lot of Chinese establishments. Only ate the dim sum but will try the Chinese dishes next time.

Tian’s Dim Sum is a great spot for people who’re craving for Dim Sum anytime before 8pm! I found this Tian’s because my usual dim sum spot stops serving dimsum after 3pm and I’m sure I’m not the only one that craves for this delicious food in the afternoon! The wonton in chile oil is a Must-try! Chicken feet has great texture. I abosutelh loved the pan fried chive dumplings! So juicy! Keep in mind it’s in Chinatown, so don’t miss a parking spot! Can’t wait to come again!

My partner and I are obsessed with this place. We came upon it 3 months ago and have been back 4-5 times.(it’s not in our neighborhood or we’d go weekly) It has the most delicious vegetarian options. The best vegetarian dumplings I have ever had and their veggie steamed buns with tofu are to die for. I honestly think it’s underpriced for the quality of food. I also love that they have a little food garden in the side alley. This is my go to spot when friends are visiting from out of town and are also vegetarian. There’s plenty of meat options for those that love it.

Can’t go wrong with 3 orders of dim sum for $15 total!! Cha siu bao was the highlight. Nice spot for a snack while exploring Chinatown or passing through on your way downtown.
